However, the one lesson from class that kept creeping up in my mind was that we don’t attract what we want; rather, we attract what we are. To be frank, that actually scared me, because if I really delved into my inner-most beliefs, it wasn’t necessarily a positive foundation for attracting things we wanted in our lives despite what I said out loud. Then I read somewhere that our “outer world” is simply a reflection – even a symbol – of our inner selves, which is another fancy way to describe that we attract what we are. Our inner-selves always go outward to the exterior world.
Using Allie’s technique to debunk old beliefs, my boyfriend and I sat down and talked about this concept and were honest with ourselves by asking strategic questions:
- Why are we stressed? Because we’re stressed trying to find jobs.
- Why is trying to find jobs so stressful? Because we’re concerned that they won’t offer us a salary that reflects what we are worth.
- Why would they offer us less than we’re worth? Because that’s just the way it is.
- Why is it that way? Because it just is.
- Why? We didn’t know.
We decided that, “Because that’s just the way it is,” is just a belief we held with no data to back it up for us. It was an unwarranted fear.
So my boyfriend and I made an agreement. We agreed that we are valuable! And anyone who interviewed us would see our value. Rather than us going to interviews and try to convince companies that they should hire us, we would let them know how valuable and high-impact we are, and they could explain to us why we should work for them.
Within eight hours of debunking our old beliefs, I received an unsolicited tip on a job along with instructions on how to best apply, and my boyfriend’s lead on a job contacted him for a telephone interview, which ended with them informing him that not only will he keep his pay rate the same, but that he will be started at a higher level than his than his former boss at his previous job! Human Resources will be contacting him to discuss logistics in the next few days.
Call it aligning, an attitude adjustment, getting into the vortex, connecting with source, attracting, whatever you will. All we know is that we finally quit sabotaging ourselves with negative thoughts and beliefs for weeks on end, and suddenly everything is falling into place just as Allie taught in her class.
